I think the strings were cheap, and the tailpiece was too close to the head among other things probably. Probably could have been much worse, though. The banjo was not really setup very well. Tone gets sweet and harp-like when you pluck/strum up the neck off the head. I'm not good enough of a player yet to say what happens when playing more up the neck. For the cost, I believe this banjo was a steal. I have friends that have bought similarly priced entry-level banjos and they sound like children's toys compared to this model. (See below.) I love the sound of this banjo.
But if setup properly, even pros can hardly tell.
This is more of an entry level banjo, price-wise, that has a resonator but not a tone ring. Submitted by BigPants ( see all reviews from this person) on Once you "outgrow" this banjo you'll be ready for that Gibson Mastertone! Although quality and tone are important, an intrument is only as good as the person playing it. In my opinion this is a starting point banjo that will carry you through the learning process into intermediate. I am glad I didn't cheap out for a lower model. This will do the job niceley and hold us over until we can justify buying a top shelf instrument. This was bought so that I and my kids(5) could learn the banjo since we really enjoy folk/bluegrass music as a family. I'd say if you come accross a mastertone type tone ring for a reasonably cheap price you might want to see if you can fit it. The finnish is smooth, shiney, and even and the resonator flange is a nice hunk of metal. The inlays are nice and tight and the wood is beautiful. tailpeice seems solid and the brackets are evenly spaced and everything fits together solid.īuying through Banjo Hut was great! There was a little mix up in the ordering and Paul sorted it out real quick. Tuners keep it in tune(for a banjo), are easy and smooth to turn.
#MORGAN MONROE BANJO MNB 1 PRO#
nothing appears to be chinsey or cheap, but there are a few details left out but hey, this isn't a pro level instrument. Being a longtime guitar player and liking a low low action I will probably have the action lowered some more but for now it's fine the way it is. This is what I prefer and like to hear.īanjo Hut setup the banjo and it plays nice. Has a classic banjo pluck to it but is a bit less sharp/shrill than a maple banjo. Submitted by Beorn ( see all reviews from this person) on Good sound, solid, I give it an overall rating of ten based on the value for the money not a ten out of all banjos.
I would definitely recommend the MNB-1 to any beginner. It does come with a lifetime warranty from Morgan MonroeĪll parts seem well made and no cheap feel at all. I didnt have to deal with Morgan Monroe but I know Dennis at Naples Park Music will take good care of me as he has the past 23 years.
#MORGAN MONROE BANJO MNB 1 UPGRADE#
Will be a few years until i am ready to upgrade to a professional model. I believe it will last quite a few years. And i have been playing the heck out of it. Was tuned and was ready to play right out of the box. I can hit every note on every fret up and down the entire fret board. Great for bleugrass.ĭenny at Naples Park Music set it up perfectly.
